Hi

I was searching for quite a while on this topic but couldn't find any data. Does somebody here know how far the ground current from a lightning strike is reaching?
Assuming having two ground rods in a practicable distance and measuring the voltage (-drop) in between.

Yup, I think so too. We seem to get quite a few of them now, expecially with L.L.M. stuff around now they are only going to get better at fooling us.

With reguards to the orignal post, a google suggests 30kA is in a lighting strike but once it hits ground its going to disapate very quickly.

A read of https://ledaelectronics.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Megger-1_GettingDownToEarth.pdf does show some examples of resistance per cm. Depending on soil and mosture it does change.

This talks about why a 13 mm / 0.5" bit of Lightning rod can keep a building safe even at 400 kA.

I would still suggest avoiding being in the path of it.

Yep, from an admin/moderator's point of view they can drive me nuts... unless just lucky enough to catch 'em... We don't like to purge or ban but sometimes it's not obvious like this one, so you folks can help us... we'd like to keep stuff off the boards... in this case it was so obvious since he virtually quoted an 8 year old query from Steph and the board itself 'related' to the original post.  Stuck out like a robot's busted elbow joint...

Getting several a week, now and increasing... and with the sneaky "sneak in a spam crap page URL" we'll soon ALL have to be moderators....

I have reported quite a few that I spotted, they are either unhelpful replies as they just state the question back at the orignal 10 year old post, or just some random repeat of the question asked. But this is only the start.
