Lightening image - Gill - 2015-07-16

We have a lot of Lightening here tonight a friend had the map I did not know about it is awesome
what is this please on the map looks like a big eye? why does some of the where the lightening is flash Red

The "big eye" is from the clouds / precipitation layer. Red around a lightning circle means, that the strike occurred just a few seconds ago.

Thank you for the reply. I did wonder  if it was from the clouds from other images I have seen,find it fascinating. Thank you for the help, I have seem some great Lightening in the past
