Blitzortung history - wimdem - 2016-01-19

Hi collegues,
I am planning to give my fellow HAMs in our area (North-East Netherlands) a presentation on Blitzortung.
I would like to give the people who started this fantastic system a place in my story. However on the website I can not find data on historical facts of the organisation like when the initiative started (2003?) and by whom and where ?
Maybe some of you had the same idea and actually showed the fun of tracking thunderstorms this way. Would you be willing to share your presentation material with me ?

Thanks for presenting the project! Smile

I think we have written down something about that some longer time ago. But I don't know where, maybe (German) forum or FAQ server? Maybe Egon or someone else knows.

Thanks for your attention Tobi.
I thought I was the only one that has a lot of things but does not always remember where he put them Dodgy .

I expect there has been a party for the 10 years existence of Blitzortung; an ideal opportunity to look back...
I hope the information surfaces sometime. Any language will do.

From what I know, Blitzortung.org started with direction finding technology which was very expensive and inaccurate. Own TOA stations were available in 2008. We still have two years left for organising a party. Big Grin

I believe someone from New Zealand (a ham radio operator, I think) put together a power-point presentation. I thought I had a copy of it but can't find it now. It gave a basic overview of Blitzortung and how the system works. I'm not sure if it had any history info though.
