Hello
Just wondering if anyone else finds the search feature very random and frustrating?.
I can never find anything specific to what I'm searching for. So many times I see experience users quoting threads to people asking questions. which tells me the forum search is not doing it's job.
Just my opinion.
Chris
Cutty recently pointed out that the forum has a hidden search feature that is a bit more usefull:
https://forum.blitzortung.org/search.php
Especially select the "Display option" "Show results as posts". You can also limit the forum that is searched.

This operates as 'full text' search by default, and therefore uses the MySQL minimum character length of 4
... therefore a search for '
GPS' or any phrase less than '4' characters won't fare well.
However a search for something like '
antenna ' or '
GNSS ' will do fine,
especially narrowing to a specific board, and using 'show as post' or other filters, especially since '
antenna ' or '
GNSS ' (e.g.) may not be in 'title', but referenced in a post body.

I concur, Chris! Over the years, I've pointed out here how to change the default four characters search. We can only hope.
There are
many three character words directly related to our lightning detectors. Sorry I can't think of any besides GPS right now, but I have tried everything and failed in many searches that absolutely require 3-character searches.
I don't believe that the search database file is being regularly updated. I also have had other searches which turned up nothing.
Perhaps Gerbold's suggestion will help.
While I agree that searching might not be all that great, if you use your imagination, you most often find what you are searching for, it never let me down.
So, instead of searching just for GPS, enter this in the search block "gps " . Yes including the "" and space after the s. Four characters.
I bet if you search for " is " it will find every -is- on this forum. YMMV
See, just from this post, it found GPS (in yellow)
