Request for data access for GermanLightning - Marvyn - 2026-08-31 Hello, I am developing a non-commercial and freely accessible weather website called GermanLightning. The website focuses on Germany and displays weather radar, DWD weather warnings, lightning activity and planned storm tracking features. I would like to ask whether I may use Blitzortung.org lightning data for this project. The website will be:
My goal is not simply to create another copy of the Blitzortung live map. The lightning data would be combined with weather radar, official weather warnings and storm tracking to provide additional information about thunderstorms over Germany. I would of course follow the applicable Blitzortung.org conditions and attribution/licensing requirements. Could you please let me know whether this project would be eligible for data access and, if so, how I can request the necessary access? Thank you very much. Best regards RE: Request for data access for GermanLightning - Marvyn - 2026-09-01 Here are some pictures from my planned Website! RE: Request for data access for GermanLightning - cutty - 2026-09-30 Blitzortung is not a general-purpose public lightning-data service or API provider. The network exists primarily for participating station operators and the cooperative lightning-location project itself. Its data is not offered as a general source for private applications, websites, hobby projects, research tools, AI-assisted projects, or other third-party services. Publicly available Blitzortung maps and related services may be used where appropriate. Direct access to the underlying lightning data is not provided for general third-party use. If your project requires a general source of lightning data for use in your own application or service, you should look to a provider whose purpose is to supply that type of data. |
