Data sample request for thesis project testing - Krzysztofz - 2025-11-22 Hello. My name is Krzysztof. I am a software developer and a student at the Silesian University of Technology. For several years, I have been developing a system for detecting lightning strikes in long video recordings, as a tool to facilitate the work of storm chasers, researchers and software developers. This project has become the subject of my engineering thesis. As part of my master's thesis, which I am currently working on, I am creating a system that involves continuous detection of lightning strikes on video streams from cameras, which will allow for the approximation of the location of a lightning strike. I wanted to ask if it is possible to obtain raw detection coordinates with timestamps in order to compare these results in my master's thesis. I saw that on the Blitzortung website, you can only access raw data if you are a contributor, so unfortunately, I do not have access to this data (I was considering joining the project, but there are already detectors in my area, so I don't know if it makes sense). Unfortunately, the historical data I can obtain on LightningMaps is also in the form of a map (without the coordinates and timestamps I need). Thank you in advance, and I look forward to your response or suggestions on where I could obtain such data. Best regards, Krzysztof |
