Downloading archive data not working - Philip.Gladstone - 2017-07-01

A big storm blew through here last night (and the barn opposite me was set alight as a result of a tree being hit by lightning). I wanted to see how close the network got to spotting this cloud-ground stroke.

I went to http://en.blitzortung.org/archive_data.php?map=33&stations_users=0&selected_numbers=*&end_date=1498867200&end_time=10800&start_date=1498867200&start_time=8400&rawdata_image=0&north=42.6&west=-71.5&east=-71.25&south=42.45&map=33&width_orig=640&width_result=640&agespan=60&frames=12&delay=100&last_delay=1000&show_result=1 and it gave me a choice of files to download. The CSV worked, but the OSM and the KML files did not seem useful -- it particular, the KML file was empty.

From the CSV file, the stroke was reported at the right time and the offset was 4,500 ft.

I also wanted to see information about the stroke, so I did the following search:

https://www.lightningmaps.org/blitzortung/america/index.php?bo_page=archive&bo_show=search&bo_lat=42.54427181177823&bo_lon=-71.37383937835693&bo_dist=10000&bo_count=10&bo_time_from=2017-07-01+02%3A30&bo_time_to=2017-07-01+03%3A00&bo_map_zoom=15&bo_map_lat=42.54630982154202&bo_map_lon=-71.37095928192139&bo_get=

but, although it said that five strokes were found, I couldn't actually see them being plotted to click on them.

Same problem here. Not appears on map.

RE: Downloading archive data not working - Pedmar - 2018-07-04

Is this still an issue or are we doing something wrong?

No matter what station I enter, the map result return treats it as a "*" and generates a map of all strikes from all stations worldwide.

If raw data is selected we get an empty,  blank box returned. And often says we need to be logged in when we are already.

Being new we were curious to look specifically at our data to see where the detections have occurred - especially our longest range ones.

That's something that I always wanted to get working.

I just found the following, perhaps this has something to do with it? Login to https://www.lightningmaps.org/doc/intro?lang=en, and the following message displays:
"There is no more active development on MyBlitzortung! Please don't use it any more. We can not provide support."

Perhaps these forums will be of help. I have never spent much time browsing them.

Pedro, yes there is a way to look at just your strikes. This Q is in the general section. Please provide me with an email address which I can use to send you a snapshot how to do it.

Click on my name, then send email.

It looks like that was rather an interesting project.

I may play with it even though it asks please don't.

Tongue

The part I couldn't make work was HTTP://EN.BLITZOTTUNG.ORG -> HISTORICAL DATA -> CUSTOMIZED ARCHIVE DATA

In snooping around I see that you can login at the HTTPS://WWW.LIGHTNINGMAPS.ORG site which apparently was put together by one of the main peoples here. Good work!

From there you can get maps of just your strikes.

But I can't quite find enough parameters to search as much as I would like.

And if it is there I still have not found a way to dump some of the raw textual data from the database for our strikes for a closer analysis offline.

That's a bit sad but not surprising having hacked bit's of it about to produce pages more to my likeing the code is not the easiest to follow and understand. I really only use Archives > Search and Archives > List, so those are the ones that have had most attention.

The data downloading and injection into the SQL database back end works provided the servers are serving. Wonder how hard it would be to split it into back/front ends. People could then write their own front ends producing the output they want, maybe as an application rather than web pages.

A simple API using PHP would be all that's needed. Done properly no information entered, station ID, date range, direction etc. should not cause any extraneous commands to be run. It may have been set up that way before though, I don't know.

My guess is that the developers decided that building and shipping new Blue systems was much more important (and rightly so!).
