Anecdotally, I became a member because my cow fencing was struck while I was visiting my parents last year. I knew it was within a 4 day window. The strike blew up all of my electric fences, and a bunch of gear. It even shorted all of my lightning protection resistors. I scoured the internet - government systems, commercial system, etc...
blitz was the ONLY dataset that told me which day it was, AND it was only off by about 150 yards.
After that, I started paying attention to blitz with alerts because my farm is on a mountain. I am personally convinced that this "hobbyist project" has likely saved my life by telling me to go home as crazy events approached.
This is why I am now a contributing member. Because I believe it's valuable for farmers like me. I personally believe it's better than anything else out there (even though most stations aren't maintained or calibrated properly). Tons of credit to the eggheads who make it work despite all of this.
If we could increase the number of caring, contributing, knowledgeable nerds, this system could be even better.
(yeehaw!)
