  Additional detection of sound?
Posted by: pe1chl - 2020-01-31, 09:43 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (17)

Has it ever been considered to add additional detection of sound to the system, or maybe to have a different (simpler) system that can be used to detect the origin of loud sounds?
As sound travels a lot slower than light, it would likely be sufficient to have an NTP-synced clock instead of a local GPS receiver.  But of course it never hurts to have it.
However, to have useful use of such a detection it needs more stations than the lightning detection system currently has.

Still, much of the basic principles would be the same, so maybe it could be done as an addition or as a second project within Blitzortung.org?

Application: location of the source of explosions, shootings, fireworks etc in a local area.

Detector link color choice for map
Posted by: Dale.Reid - 2020-01-14, 12:08 - Forum: Website, Maps and Applications - Replies (7)

I'm using the latest (v 3.6) map to watch activity in region 3, or the North America display, where I live in Wisconsin, USA.

Of course we participants are interested in our systems, when strikes are used for calculations and other signs of participation.  We have pride in participation.

I'm wondering, to that end, if there is a way to set a specific color to display when my station is used, in order to have that detector link color be unique to my stations and the rest of the links displayed be the color that is chosen from the configuration box?

I know it seems a wee bit self-important to do this, but if there were some way to have that coloration be different, it would for me at least make it a little more fun to watch the system in action.

  Volcanic Lightning Taal Eruption
Posted by: pasense - 2020-01-12, 19:47 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - Replies (1)

blitzortung has so far recorded 9 strokes that were probably due to the ongoing eruption of Taal volcano, which produced spectacular ground to (volcanic) cloud lightning.

BO's live vector map can now be easily integrated on websites with a fixed map. The easiest way is as iframe. Here is an example.

http://map.blitzortung.org/mapexample.html

The various parameters are self-explanatory.

The following parameters with the values 0=false and 1=true are for the controls.

interactive 0/1
NavigationControl 0/1
FullScreenControl 0/1
ScaleControl 0/1
Advertisment 0/1
InfoDiv 0/1

The settings in the menu can be controlled with the following parameters:

MapStyle 0-3
MapStyleRangeValue 0-11
Lightning Range 1-2 1-2
LightningCheckboxChecked 0/1
CourseRangeValue 0-10

How to accurately determine local time on maps
Posted by: PCS-North - 2019-10-16, 14:53 - Forum: Website, Maps and Applications - No Replies

Hi,

I am trying to verify the map time (shown as UTC +2) against the actual local time at a given location. For example, looking at Oklahoma / Kansas, the time still shows UTC +2. But I think this area is on UTC -5. So, can I say reliably that the time on the map, minus 7 hours, is the local time for Eastern Oklahoma / Kansas

Thanks, this is a great resource and a very cool project!

Received System Blue offer. The order was ignored.
Posted by: s1ini - 2019-09-23, 09:41 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (5)

Hi,

On 5 September I received an email with an offer to order a System Blue unit. I selected the order option which our team requires and provided a delivery address. However, I received no response and the 14-day notice to order has since expired.

What seems to be the issue?

I wonder, when is Bermuda's radar coming back on lightning maps? I remember it being there months ago before they had to take it offline to make upgrades

  embedding blitzortung-map in grafana dashboard
Posted by: gono - 2019-09-22, 20:36 - Forum: Website, Maps and Applications - Replies (1)

Hello alltogether,

blitzortung is really a great project. I am already on the list, if a station in Dortmund, germany is needed Wink

My question is: Does somebody use a blitzortung-map in grafana? I managed to embed the interactive map as html via iframe:

The embedded map is static and does not resize, if the browser window size is changed. In this case scrollbars are shown in the interactive map due to defining a static height and width:

Did somebody already try to embed a reziable map? For my case, the interactive map is not necessary. This small map is great:

.png   2019-09-22 22_36_53-Integrate into your own website __ LightningMaps.org.png (Size: 4.72 KB / Downloads: 100)

I would be great if I could define
1. the central point of the map (e.g. Dortmund = 51.514468, 7.465147)
2. the width e.g in kilometers or as coordinates of how much from the map is always shown, (200 km width or "show the map until 51.336534, 9.499416")
regardless of how small or big the map is.

Any hint would be helpful.

Have a great day
