System Blue Basic availability?
#1
Way back, when System Red was all the rage I expressed my interested in becoming a node operator but could never seem to find out how to get a detector system. Green came and went as did Blue and now I see that we have Blue Basic.

I've never found a way to order before and I cannot find a way now. I have, once again, registered my interest in giving one of these detectors a home in the far north west of England, where detectors are few and far between. I have all the technical competence and more to build and run a system. I even have an SMD workstation and flow soldering oven, so I could work with a bare board if necessary. I live in an electrically quiet rural location with low latency, fast broadband.

It must, surely, be possible to get one of these systems but the question is... HOW?

I've wanted one forever, as well. I think I just bought one today. It happened like this:

Go to this page:
www blitzortung org/en/Documents/Order-List.pdf
Read it, decide what you want, and send an email to
blitzortung@gmx.org
and tell Egon what you want and what you expect it to cost.

I got an email back saying that everything was in stock and I could paypal him the money.
I paypal-ed him the Euros, my credit card was charged,
and I got an email back with a tracking number.

I have, in the past, entered my email into the cover_your_area.php form page.
I don't know if that had anything to do with my buying one today.

It'll be interesting to hear what happens...

I did that at least twice as well. Nothing ever happened, not even an acknowledgement. It's almost as if they don't really want any more participants...

And you will hear about it, because I am the chatty type.

The tracking number I received is from DHL, and the timeline shows that the package was very promptly scanned and taken into one of DHL's 14,600 PackStation locations in Europe. It further been moved from the Packstation into DHL's international shipment network on  "Tu, 10.06.2025, 09:53, Germany".

Hi,
I saw this thread 3 days ago. I already have two Red (777 &  887) systems and a deactivated Green. I have always wanted a Blue, but when
my name came up on the original waiting list, I was not in a position due to comitments to take it up.  I emailed Egon yesterday. 11/6/25 and formally ordered a blue mini system and paid via PayPal.  The DHL tracking info came through this evening.  I must now go and check my wiring and antenna.   I look forward to hearing your adventures,

Chris

That's terrific, Chris!

Guess I had better get an antenna or two built.

Th, 12.06.2025, 10:34: The shipment has departed on flight %LH8050%. Please find more information here.

No change in location. The flight it was on was from Frankfurt to New York, and I am in California.

I was incorrect.
When I checked DHL.com and disclosed the tracking number, more information was made available about local shipping in the US when I also disclosed my zip code.
The package has been transferred to USPS, fortunately, and I'm getting it TOMORROW!

It has arrived!
It appears to have only a single component that can be soldered on, C500.
The aluminum case is ridiculously substantial.

I ran station 3174 outside on a light iron lawn chair, in the cardboard box that it came in, without antennae for about 24 hours. There are no LED ports in my Blue mini case, so for a while the board has to run naked until I know how it works. It's the dry time of year here, not even dew until fall when old Fall starts to give way to wet and windy winter. I've already been asked by the Partner where the it's going to live: the subtext is "because it's sure not going to get to grow roots where it is right now".

I wound some 38 cm, 20 turn loops from jacketed copper wire using a big cooking pot for a form, bound them with glass fiber tape, and hung them at right angles on one arm and the back of the chair so that the flat planes of the loops are oriented N-S and E-W. I hooked them up to the preamp, turned off the board, and plugged in the preamp cable.

It was getting on dusk when I re-powered it, and I was excited to hear it tick almost immediately, like a Geiger counter detecting background radiation, with a little yellow flash with each click. I came in to look at the live lightning maps and saw it participate almost immediately in a lightning strike triangulation, a new green square on the map that for sure had not been there before.

This is a good stopping place for my story in this thread, about a Blue mini from the time I bought it to the time that it is a participant in the network.

Dan,
My congratulations as well. My blue mini is due to be delivered this afternoon, having been delayed by UK customs  wishing to relieve me of 45UKP  Sad .  Good luck John on your own Blue mini journey.
