This thread gives you information on how to order a detector.
Please do not ask us by email, when the boards are available. We will announce it here in this thread.
Date: 12. August 2016
Status: Detectors are available
The ordering process of detectors is as follows. Everybody who leaves his email at the Cover Your Area Page page is stored in a reservation list and gets a rank. If detectors are available, we will proceed according to this list. Nevertheless, about one third of the detectors will be reserved to particularly interesting locations.
In any case please
1.) read the old Project Description, (thoroughly!),
2.) read the new Project Description with Assembly Instruktion for System Blue (thoroughly!)

Edit Reason: Corrections and Reduction of Suppliers
)
Updated on June 11th 2016
Dear Egon and fellow enthusiasts,
in case you're having trouble finding some parts of the order list and/or want to save time I may have a solution for you. After searching various sites I managed to reduce the number of suppliers down to three (Reichelt, Farnell and eBay).
BASIC SETUP:
Reichelt carries most parts for the basic setup. In this updated version I also included a substitute for the Taiyo Yuden LHL08TB332J 3300uH as suggested by RichoAnd.
1. Reichelt Shopping Cart: https://secure.reichelt.de/index.html?&A...ROVID=2084
2. HR911105A HANRUN RJ45 Connector with Integrated Magnetics: https://www.ebay.de/itm/181423290393 or https://octopart.com/hr911105a-hanrun-61493516
3. Murata Power Solutions DAC 103C: http://de.farnell.com/murata-power-solut...dp/1362400 or https://octopart.com/da103c-murata+power...s-49447873
FILTER OPTION:
If you plan to build the filter option, you can buy the additional parts at Farnell.
1. http://de.farnell.com/linear-technology/...dp/1417723 or https://octopart.com/ltc1569cs8-7%23pbf-...ogy-457848
2. http://de.farnell.com/lprs/sma-connector...dp/2096223 or https://octopart.com/sma+connector-lprs-23943633
Now, if none of these suppliers work for you, you may want to check out this part search engine. You can even upload your BOMs there and it finds suppliers, price and availability for you right away: www.octopart.com
I hope some of you find this information useful.
Best,
WX3080

If you order basic kit complete: Items 1-18 ... ( inductor values may change) It will arrive as:
The 8 MHz crystal (12), the two jumpers (11) came installed from assembly
Filter option (#20 and #21), at least for U.S., possibly others:
(21) Linear Technology
$7.00 US (LTC1569CS8-7#PBF) or $7.70 if you want Industrial temp range (LTC1569IS8-7#PBF)
+ shipping

And a package of 10 SMA connectors, if you choose to install them:

Thanks for the update Cutty! I only wanted to help. Some people prefer one stop shopping. Of course there are numerous suppliers, especially in the US. Octopart.com is very helpful for sourcing all items.

You did fine! Being world wide alternate sources are important, especially costs... I found that obtaining the basic testing relase as a package (1-18) about as cost effective as searching all over and tracking them down....and much more convenient.... the exceptions were the add ons by a few dollars.
Also it seems to me that unless a person wants to build their own ferrites, as many of us have done, (or use other type loops) ordering the Friese is a superb choice, and the cost is totally reasonable....they are well made, and characteristics and standardization are important.

Is it possible that more information be made available for those of us hoping to get a System Blue? Obviously a lot is being discussed behind closed doors that those of us who are not "made men" not privy to since we don't currently have a registered system.
For instance, what is the recommended antenna system. I have seen hints of a triangular ferrite system..is that the new recommended system? Of is the coax loop antenna still the best?
Do we want to install the optional filters? How does one decide?
I'd like to potentially buy the components and have them ready when the systems are made available but we are in kind of a catch 22 situation.
Will those of us who do not have systems ever get a chance to order a Blue system, or do we need to wait till all the existing members of the club get one first?

well... your question involves discussion well beyond this thread's intent, perhaps but for quick answers:
First of all, the information is evolving. 2nd of all, it is not a very large 'club' as it were... there are currently only about 7 'testing' blues currently, and much of any information about "BLUE" is still being evolved. Let's say that for operational purposes so far, find out everything you can about the previous systems, Green and especially RED. ... about lightning characteristics, and detecting strokes. Generic info.
No operator will simply be able to 'plug'n'play' this system and expect consistent quality results. The Blitzortung Network evolves.
Both antenna concepts have advantages and disadvantages. From delays in signals, to physical size. In a perfect world, everybody would use standardized antennas, but part of this project is experimentation so there are variations.
Unlike previous designs, BLUE will allow 3 loops for H field detection to be used... up to three. Two or three mounted to detect the H field component of 'vertically' polarized impulses, or two in that physical plane, with the third mounted to detect H component of 'horizontally' polarized impulses. The E field probe detects E component of Vertically polarized impulses.
Only way to know you need any extra filters is to get an operational system, find out your electromagnetic environment, and determine if the filters would help. That's why they're optional. For many folks/locations, they'll be unnecessary.
Yes, you'll get an opportunity to "join the club"... follow Egon's instructions in the initial post...being patient until they are announced, and the sooner the first 100 builds begin to deplete, the sooner the next order would be submitted for production.
If you've further questions, might start a new thread about them, and leave this for ordering issues, etc...
Cheers!
Mike

When the leading post in this thread is updated by Egon, it does not show up in the Unread Posts or Today's Posts lists. Would it be possible to add a brief "updated" post to the thread when there are changes? Thanks.

Looking forward to getting my hands on this system. You might want to update the USB adapter information in the System Blue Assembly document to avoid confusion. The text says the plug is a USB-B, but the pictures and the part number suggest that the USB connector is actually a Mini-B.

Not only you, the following parts are also waiting for the boards and your subsequent orders.
Amazing! I better get that soldering iron ready. What thickness do you recommend for the solder wire?

Not something very important ...
In the documentation it is spoken about "CAT" cable :
"The router is connected at the RJ45 network port with a CAT cable."
"The H-field pre-amplifier is connected with a shielded CAT cable"
"CAT" itself is not a model of cable even if everybody understand what you mean. CAT followed by a number is a category of twisted pair cable which can be shielded or not.
UTP or FTP, CAT 5e or higher, for instance, seems more appropriate

Thanks. Sorry andyweather: This system is not plug'n'play, and does not come fully assembled.
Please see the assembly instructions..
