Journalism student looking for cool science |

Hello lightning enthusiasts! I'm a journalism student in MIT's Graduate Program for Science Writing, and I'm doing preliminary research to find cool science to write about while I'm in this program. I think Blitzortung and lightningmaps.org are really neat, and I'm wondering if anyone would like to give me some background info on these projects. How did they get started? What motivates members to participate? I read here that Blitzortung was used to pinpoint the origin of a forest fire in Australia. How else have the data been used?
Thank you everyone!
Saima

Location does not exist on CYA page |

Hi all,
I find this project interesting and wondered if my location is suitable to be considered for a detector? Unfortunately I can't accurately sign up using the form on the "cover your area" (CYA) page as I am not listed. I live on the island of Guernsey in the Channel Islands, between England and France. The Lat and Long are 49.4482° N, 2.5895° W .
Any advice on how to proceed would be great!
Thanks

How to set city and country 2725 |

I did not manage to set city and country, is it done internally in the detector or externally on the web? I once got into these settings along with settings for types of antennae. Filled in the values ands saved them, but they did not turn up in the map. Cannot get back to the site where I am supposed to register the data.
I am also not able to log in to the forum for participants.
