Becomming a member without a station
Posted by: martmiwp - 2018-07-06, 12:48 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

Hi all,

I want to create for my home area (Bavaria, Germany) a map showing the lightning. This is for my own purpose - any I want to skip the advertisement and other "trash".

After reading through all, I am under the impression, that I need to install a station, to get the access to the data.

My question: Is there another way to become a member without building up a station. ... on donation basis or ?!?!?

To say it: For my own home purposes - Congratulations for this very active community.

Best regards
Michael

  System red controller
Posted by: BraunWer - 2018-07-06, 06:56 - Forum: Non-English - No Replies

Werner

  Venezuela: Lake Maracaibo
Posted by: JohnFish - 2018-07-04, 08:36 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (4)

Hello,

I have found this video about lake Maracaibo
Video

There are storms about 140 to 160 nights a year :
Wikipedia page of the phenomenum

But when I look on the map of Blitzortung I see nothing..

Is this due to a poor coverage of the zone? But we can see some strikes elsewhere in Venezuela.

If someone has a explanation I will appriciate.

Thank you very much.

New System - two (minor) problems
Posted by: Kingfisher - 2018-06-23, 10:14 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - Replies (1)

I have a freshly built System Blue, undergoing initial testing.
I have created my user account, upgraded the firmware, and my system is now running 24/7 with a reasonable GPS signal.
As I am not generating any useful data, I have switched to MONITOR mode.

Problem one:  I can't see my own details in the station list.
Details:  Station 2241,    City Bristol Central,   Country United Kingdom.

Problem two:  I can't see any signals beyond the internal noise floor. (And the internal test signal)
There is power to both pre-amp cards,  but no signal pick-up.   With solar-electric panels nearby, I would have expected SOMETHING  on the E card   Undecided

It is going to be something dumb in both cases.  I will find them in the end, but would appreciate some pointers.

Many Thanks

Kingfisher

Lightbulb ECMWF Lightning forecast on Windy.com
Posted by: Windy - 2018-06-19, 13:04 - Forum: Website, Maps and Applications - Replies (2)

Hi folks,

I have great news, we added new layer to Windy.com - Thunderstorms. It is based on a forecast from ECMWF released earlier this month.  Here is more information regarding the lightning prediction. It shows great results when compared to Blitzortung.

Let us know what do you think about it.

  Historical data access
Posted by: ricky_mnt - 2018-06-19, 08:05 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (1)

Good morning,

I'm new in this Forum and have a question regarding Historical data access.

But first some background, I'm from Portugal but actually living in Belgium (Brussels) and will be moving back to Portugal (countryside) in the near Future - planning to install a station there, but this will not be before a few months.

Also I'm working on a private project relative to weather and would be very helpfull if I could get access to the Historical data in Raw to make some analysis.
This is only accessible for the contributors so not sure there is a way I could access it before having the station set up?

In any case would be thankfull if anyone could give some feedback.

Cheers

  Lightningmaps Search Archives Problem?
Posted by: chubros - 2018-06-14, 07:44 - Forum: Website, Maps and Applications - Replies (3)

I had a question about archive search for members. In the page https://www.lightningmaps.org/blitzortun...ch&lang=en the found items not appears in the map as usual. Did the old feature to identify every stroke is not available anymore?
Thanks .

  Accuracy question
Posted by: edbett - 2018-06-07, 01:03 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (5)

Comparing data on this site with that shown in another app, WeatherBug, there is a large difference of about 120 miles between the strike locations shown on WeatherBug and those shown here for the Denver Colorado area. Currently there is extensive lightning Southwest of Denver, but nothing shows in this site except about 120 miles to the Northeast.   I can confirm the WeatherBug location visually, so something is not right.  Any explanations?

  New hardware?
Posted by: triggerfish - 2018-05-31, 19:33 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (10)

Hi,

I read not to ask for ordering kits. I just wonder if there will be another batch of systems become available. I have been on the list for about two years now at rank position 3559 of 4350. I would love to contribute and keep my fingers crossed for a mention of new hardware, but after two years I start to wonder if new kits will become available.

Best regards, Peter

Hi there!

i am a new member of Blitzortung.org and have a few queries which I would appreciate your help on.

i have been using the app on my Galaxy Note 8 and Note 3 for about 2 or 3 years, can someone tell me the significance of the numbers in the coloured square on the map.

I would also like to set up a recording station here in Swansea,UK; how does one get hold of the latest Blitzortung euipment please?

Cheers,

westernslade5
