  Historical data access
Posted by: ricky_mnt - 2018-06-19, 08:05 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (1)

Good morning,

I'm new in this Forum and have a question regarding Historical data access.

But first some background, I'm from Portugal but actually living in Belgium (Brussels) and will be moving back to Portugal (countryside) in the near Future - planning to install a station there, but this will not be before a few months.

Also I'm working on a private project relative to weather and would be very helpfull if I could get access to the Historical data in Raw to make some analysis.
This is only accessible for the contributors so not sure there is a way I could access it before having the station set up?

In any case would be thankfull if anyone could give some feedback.

Cheers

I had a question about archive search for members. In the page https://www.lightningmaps.org/blitzortun...ch&lang=en the found items not appears in the map as usual. Did the old feature to identify every stroke is not available anymore?
Thanks .

  Accuracy question
Posted by: edbett - 2018-06-07, 01:03 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (5)

Comparing data on this site with that shown in another app, WeatherBug, there is a large difference of about 120 miles between the strike locations shown on WeatherBug and those shown here for the Denver Colorado area. Currently there is extensive lightning Southwest of Denver, but nothing shows in this site except about 120 miles to the Northeast.   I can confirm the WeatherBug location visually, so something is not right.  Any explanations?

  New hardware?
Posted by: triggerfish - 2018-05-31, 19:33 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (10)

Hi,

I read not to ask for ordering kits. I just wonder if there will be another batch of systems become available. I have been on the list for about two years now at rank position 3559 of 4350. I would love to contribute and keep my fingers crossed for a mention of new hardware, but after two years I start to wonder if new kits will become available.

Best regards, Peter

Hi there!

i am a new member of Blitzortung.org and have a few queries which I would appreciate your help on.

i have been using the app on my Galaxy Note 8 and Note 3 for about 2 or 3 years, can someone tell me the significance of the numbers in the coloured square on the map.

I would also like to set up a recording station here in Swansea,UK; how does one get hold of the latest Blitzortung euipment please?

Cheers,

westernslade5

  Use OpenStreetMap as background map
Posted by: brunetton - 2018-05-22, 17:38 - Forum: Website, Maps and Applications - Replies (7)

Hi everybody

First of all, thanks to everyone that made this wonderfull project possible, you're really amazing ! This is one of the most beautiful collaborative projects I know  Heart

But, as a free software developer and defender, I really wonder: why google maps ? I'm surprised to see a commercial map on a collaborative a free project when there's a free and collaborative map available.
Why don't we use OpenStreetMap ? I see many advantages using OSM:

- no fees (google will update their pricing policies in a few months (here is a French article describing this huge fees increase)
- many maps customization (colors, map features, fonts, ...): some examples here and here

Auxiliary remark: when I look to the dynamic lightnings map, I often wonder "what is the city hidden behind those lights drawings ?" An option to control the lightings overlay would be great to see cities names behind. Note that cities names are often more clear (more names at the same zoom level) in OpenStreetMap than in Google maps !

I'm a developer at [url=URL REMOVED BY ADMIN[/url] and I would be really happy to help to this project !

Thanks

Hi everybody,

Little message just to say that it took me a lot of time to create a forum account. The questions to answer (3kHz - 30kHz freq band and lightning discharge impulse other name) are hard for a non-english speaker like me (and the answers are not on the website).
Google captcha is in IMHO more than enough !

The Position Options stopped working a long time ago...  Position Icon in options menu in the upper right of the screen is "black" not active linked like the others.  You'd click on it and NOTHING would happen

RECENTLY, I tried it again and the options drop down opened, and I thought, AWESOME!!!  But... it won't let you check "ON" for either selection.  <frown>

Browser:  Firefox, latest update, Windows 10 PRO, fully updated. "Allow Position Info" permission set to "ALLOW".
Chrome?  Same exact deal.....  All other options function, just not position.

I REALLY miss having my location marked on the map....  Any ideas?

Hallo,
