  Upload Bandwidth
Posted by: Alanpenwith - 2017-10-06, 07:40 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - No Replies

Hi All
I use a satellite broadband link and it is quite limited on upload bandwidth. I have set the Send Traffic Threshold to 100% but are there any other tips for reducing the upload traffic . Unfortunately I am having to run in Monitor mode a lot of the time which rather defeats the object of system.
Regards
Alan

  Should we have a FAQ?
Posted by: pasense - 2017-09-18, 09:13 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (41)

There are many newcomers now that need some help setting up the station (like me not long ago) and they tend to have difficulties finding the information they need in the forum. Its all there basically, but distributed over many different posts. I think that collecting all this basics in a FAQ or a HowTo list may  help a lot, especially in avoiding some disappointments or even costly mistakes. What is the opinion? Should we start such an activity? I would be willing to contribute, if possible.

I have attached a picture of what I have done and welcome your feedback please?

For some reason I can't add a picture.....

the board is 19.3c and followed the instructions on http://en.blitzortung.org/cover_your_area.php

Should be a picture now attached

Прошу отписать тех, кто из России или, просто, говорит по-русски. Хотелось бы обменяться контактами. Синяя плата никак не зарегистрируется до конца, надо понять почему.

  Signal graphs
Posted by: Alanpenwith - 2017-09-15, 17:48 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - Replies (25)

Hi All
I have now finished building the kit and in the testing phase. Things seem to be working but I see no output from my site on the maps. Also I tried switching to manual mode for gain etc (set at 10,10 hp on & off) as suggested in the forum but the signal graph is then empty of a trace.
I am getting the odd flash on the signal led - more so when looking at the graph in automatic mode.
I am getting a good gps signal but on the main status screen it says GPS NO and further down it says authentication no - I have put in my login details but that stays the same.
Any help would be gratefully received.
Regards
Alan

  Patch cord
Posted by: Alanpenwith - 2017-09-13, 08:15 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - Replies (1)

Hi
I am asking about the pin connections of the 8 way patch cord for the H preamp. Should the pin 1 at the preamp end be connected to the pin 1 of the main board end or crossed over so it is pin 1 to pin 8, 2 to 7  and so on.
Many thanks
Alan

  Lightning strike locations by email
Posted by: DnH2016 - 2017-09-09, 07:48 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (1)

I've developed a little cron job that can send emails to me for lightning strikes around any location from myblitzortung.

I'm happy to add anyone else to this job who has an interest, and a working station.

Please send an email to bostrikes@gmail.com with your station number, the lat and lon of the region that you interested in, whether you want an email daily or weekly and how many strikes you want listed. When I get time I will add your email to the cron job.

If this breaks any of the community policies then I am happy to cease providing this service.

  New to Blue
Posted by: Alanpenwith - 2017-09-07, 17:07 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - No Replies

Hi All
So new I'm waiting for the dispatch note for the blue system.
I've just had major surgery so I am rather tied to light tasks so I thought about building a crossed loop antenna. I have a quantity of 10mm copper plumbing pipe which might be suitable but I've been unable so far to find  exactly how the antenna is made and the wiring details. I need a step by step idiots guide to construction. I'm sure somewhere in the forum there is just that so if anyone can point me there I'd be most grateful. I've seen the mini guide but it doesn't give a simple man like myself quite enough detail.  I'm happy with making the hardware.

  Potentially offline for Hurricane Irma
Posted by: JupiterJoe - 2017-09-07, 15:13 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (5)

Hey guys, depending on conditions, my station will be down for the hurricane. We're in Jupiter, Florida, two miles from the Atlantic Ocean. The E-field probe has to come down from the roof, but the H-field will remain on as long as possible. The anemometer and weather station will also remain online as long as possible.
Wish us luck!!
