Noise spikes on board, System Blue
Posted by: Jorgeminator - 2016-06-15, 13:06 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (8)

I'm seeing noise spikes which appear on the board. These spikes still appear with the H-field pre-amplifier unplugged. I'm guessing this could be the result of me not grounding the board? It only happens on channel 1A.

  "Symmetrical noise" on H-field

What causes this kind of noise? I'm seeing it frequently on my station and other stations as well.

  New UK station?
Posted by: allsorts - 2016-06-09, 21:24 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (7)

Hi,

Been aware of Blitzorgtung for years and have harbored the idea of running a station more or less since I started the online weather station in 1999: http://www.howhill.com/weather.

Trouble is I always seemed to hit the transition period between systems, when the old was out of stock and the new not quite ready. Looks like I've got the timing right this time.   Shy

Yellow blob on the attached map, borrowed from www.lightningmaps.org, is about where the station would be. Looks like it would nicely fill a gap and improve coverage of the east side of northern England. The location is at 1400' and fairly exposed, so I'd expect it to have quite a range.

Does this make the station "very special" and give a priority in the next batch of boards?  Well you never know...

Cheers
Dave.

Hello from Greece.
I just setup my new fifth station (system blue)
I want to ask if there is any ground point for system blue.
My old red system was performing much better when i ground it and i want to test it also in system blue..
Thanks in advance...

General questions for a new system
Posted by: flo_ww - 2016-06-06, 11:34 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (4)

Hello,

i play in my mind with the idea to participate to the network with a system blue. After study all the documents i very well informed. But there are some questions left who i didn´t find a answer what satisfy me.

It´s planned to mount the system on top of the roof of a hall 50m x 50m with 15m height. The complete structure, including the roof, are mostly made of metal. There are not many electrical intereferences around, just some LED lamps inside the building. I don´t expect many noises from them.

I´m aware that i have to search a perfect place for the antenna a while. But maybe there is someone who already tried such kind of configuration and can give me a short information if these is possible or if it´s a complete disadvantage. From my HAM Radio experiences i know that metal below a Antenna can decide over sucess or failure. Thats the reason why i ask before i start with the project.

There is one more thing, whats about the cable length between controller and amplifier? I have a suited place for the controller, but this require cabling length around 40m. Not sure if the system will work properly if i do that. Is there anybody who have some experiences about this? Somewhere i read about 30m as maximum.

Thanks in advance for your answer.

Greetings from Germany

Flo

  System red gesucht
Posted by: afloria - 2016-06-04, 21:37 - Forum: Non-English - Replies (1)

Hallo,

  Servers are down [fixed]
Posted by: Tobi - 2016-06-04, 18:32 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (1)

While writing the text below, the issue has been fixed.

----

Same procedure as every year: Our main servers are down since 16:25 UTC due to problems with the hoster. We don't have any influence on that.

A temporary website for Lightningmaps has been created here: http://www2.lightningmaps.org
It show's experimental data only. No archives and no statistics are created.

There's already work in progress to add more redundancy. Some servers have already been moved to another hoster. For example, the temporary server from above is located in North America.
