| System Blue - Early Integration |

Hi all,
A few notes on the integration approach I used for System Blue - congrats to the team for a great solution with some powerful/easy to use built-in tools to get up and running quickly (particularly the Signals page with noise floor checkbox/noise floor p-p measurements)
H-field:
Started with manual control and E-field input disabled - gain at minimum on 1A and 1B (no 1C connected). Gradually increased the gain while finding optimum antenna placement, rotating the antenna to identify directions of noise sources. After some time I found a location where the noise spikes on the red channel were the only real interference - based on other postings I understand these are generated by the controller and were significantly improved by switching off the HP filter. During early testing I was plagued by significant interference at 120/s (related to TV/dimmer switch 60Hz) but only in the relatively near field.
E-field:
Same approach - manual control with H-field inputs disabled - gain at minimum on 2A. Gradually increased gain while finding a relatively quiet place for the antenna. Grounding the controller board to electrical ground (copper water pipe) improved performance, but the biggest gain was realized by using a dedicated copper grounding rod pushed into the ground.
A couple of questions:
1. I notice that running in Automatic mode dials back the gains significantly from what I can accomplish in manual mode with minimal interference. This is the opposite of what I found during early testing, where the system would get caught in a cycle of automatically increasing gain until it entered interference mode, and then significantly back off the gain (repeats). I assumed that the goal would be to get the max sensitivity from all stations without entering interference mode, but this does not appear to be the case (perhaps based on the increased density of stations)? What is the goal of the algorithm?
2. During testing I had a number of occasions where the controller would stop responding - seemingly related to burst mode interference. External pings would fail, the GPS LED would extinguish and the network LED would remain on despite the network cable being unplugged. Although the problem does not appear to occur during normal (non-interference) operation, I would have expected the watchdog to restart the controller in this scenario. Any ideas for further troubleshooting?
Thanks,
Peter

Hello everyone,
I just got my system blue built last week and powered up. It has been running fine as far as I can tell. I was just looking at my network switch and noticed that the port it is plugged into is only running at 10mb half duplex and is throwing some CRC and late collision errors on that port. I tested the cable run between the switch and the detector and it checked out. Does it sound like I may have done a bad solder job on the nic?
Thanks!
Jeff

| System Blue: Searching for SMA & Modula panel jack (items from reichelt didn't fit) |

Hello,
I ordered the shopping cart from reichelt.de. But the items "SMA panel jack, angled, solder pins" and "Modular panel jack 8/8, shielded"
did'nt fit on the PCB. The SMA panel jack is to short for the case and the 8/8 Modular jack has a different pin layout (The images in the shop shows
the right item. But they deliver a slightly different item.).
Does anyone know of a shop (maybe from Germany) where I get the matching components?
Thanks!
Dirk

Hello All,
Received my system blue in the mail today. I have it completely put together with the exception of the rocker switch. I guess I don't understand how to connect it to the board. I understand where it is supposed to be connected, but how? Appreciate any suggestions on this!
Can't wait to get it powered up!
Jeff

hey guys,
i´ve a questiton about the using of the "h-field and e-field" connection cabel.
in the manual ther is the sentence: "The H-field pre-amplifier is connected with a shielded twisted pair cable (FTP, STP, S/STP, or S/FTP) to the main board. This cable should not be placed next to the network cable."
BUT
can i place the RJ45-Cabel next to the Coaxial-cabel??
AND
in the manual there is the sentence: "The E-field pre-amplifier is connected with 75 Ω double shielded coaxial cable to the main board."
but i only find 4- or 5-Times shielded. Can i use this one too??
thank you for helping

Hi,
I received my System Blue a couple of days ago - built it OK and initial power-up looks good (starting next on the antennas). However I have been unable to create a new account on www.blitzortung.org for some reason:
I first attempted to register here:
http://en.blitzortung.org/login.php
But registering with a new username and Register Code (format XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX) simply blanks the data with no confirmation.
I then attempted to register here (link from the internal webserver - latest 8.0 beta FW):
https://www.lightningmaps.org/user/regis...XXXXXXXXXX
I enter name, desired username, e-mail address and password but get 'This password is not allowed!'
I've tried multiple different password options (longer, shorter, added capitals, added numbers, added symbols) - I also tried this on IE and Chrome browsers.
I also tried the password recovery function in case I had registered previously, but as expected I get 'Couldn't find an entry with username or email address XYZ'.
Thanks,
Peter
