  Buying a receiver
Posted by: Yoggie - 2017-05-24, 11:58 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

Looking to set up a receiver to connect to the Blitzortung network.  Been looking at prices but keep getting different amounts in the prices.

So can anyone supply me with a ball park figure as to how much it will cost for the receiver.  The pricing and all the rest is getting my head to ache. Huh

Thanks in dvance.

Bug lightningmaps.org - Archives:Search don't show points on map
Posted by: Elint - 2017-05-24, 11:32 - Forum: Website, Maps and Applications - Replies (2)

After login and selecting range to show strokes I can't see any point on the map. Below attached screenshot and link to web page:

What was wrong? Is problem with googlemaps API or with my configuration?

  Überspannung
Posted by: Bernhard - 2017-05-22, 20:55 - Forum: Non-English - Replies (4)

Hallo,
Station ID 1657

Information State border of Namibia
Posted by: thorpe - 2017-05-21, 18:54 - Forum: Website, Maps and Applications - Replies (1)

Finding an old border around Walvis Bay in your map of Namibia, I looked up Wikipedia:
"Following the signing of a treaty between the two countries, South Africa formally transferred sovereignty of Walvis Bay ... to Namibia on 1 March 1994."
Please update! You're 23 years late! Wink
Greetings from Windhoek

ps. South Sudan is missing also!

Smooth trace, smooth spectrum - strange
Posted by: hp3ak2 - 2017-05-19, 23:38 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (15)

I am a new user for 3 days now.  I notice that a few of my reporting waveforms and spectrum plots are what I would call "very smooth" compared to most reports from my station and all other stations that I have viewed.  The system seems to be receiving and using these observations, as well as my more "normal" waveforms for calculations.  Can anyone explain these beautiful, but odd waveforms?  They only seem to show up at a range of 3,000 km to maybe 3,300 km ... very strange.

I have attached a screen shot of a report.  -Or- they show up often enough that you should be able to view them:  Station 1838 in Volcan, Panama.  Thanks for any information that you can give me.

  Access to digitized data
Posted by: pasense - 2017-05-16, 12:11 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - Replies (2)

Maybe a stupid question, but is there a way to access the raw digitized data? The analog data can be accessed via the optional SMA connectors, but what about the digital signal? I am looking for an easy way to check the spectrum for noise sources.

  Detectors
Posted by: adampl - 2017-05-15, 19:21 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - Replies (3)

Hi Guys!

I have bought a RED detector from another user.
He has forgotten login data to blitzortung, he doesn't even remember if it has ever been connected online - how to recover that?
Is that possible to add new user on that hardware?

What is worse, there is probably some error with the detector - the LCD screen is dead/dark/empty, but some diodes glow with the red light.
Someone had suggested for me to try to install new firmware for RED system.
Is that OK?
How can I download the firmware without the login/pass data??

I sincerely hope that you will spare sometime to answer the questions above
I'm looking forward to hearing from you

  Cartography and funding (empty zones)
Posted by: Kellogs - 2017-05-14, 11:50 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - Replies (2)

Dear Friends,

In my spare time I am contacting user groups, communities and interested people to point out the importance of Blitzortung lightning detection projet. I am interested in filling "empty zones". This is quite interesting as empty zones cannot be filled "immediately" and several stations are needed (as well as hardware in some case). It means that we shall encourage people to work together.

Here are my questions:

1) Coverage map

The list of stations is available here.
http://en.blitzortung.org/station_list.php

Is there a raster map available somewhere with zoom in-out to visualize approximate geographical coordinate of stations.

2) Grid
Are you planning to define an official grid where there should be at least 1 to n stations in the grid.

This will help user in their settings, detecting low-range or long-range lightnings (stop me if I am wrong).
It could help amateur meteo with statistics.

Also it could help me target zones where it would be nice to have new users.

If there is no grid approach, please let met propose a solution and set-up my own raster server.

3) Funding

If you need funding, I may be able to help. I know you are not looking for money and this is a hobby. But it might be interesting for certain zones (ex: Africa or South-America) to find a sponsor (company or organization) that would install an initial network of 10 to 50 stations, pay for hardware, just for a good start. If you are interested, please let me know and I can contact you privately. I don't need to collect the money, companies or organization will purchase directly from you.

I am French and I speak German also.

Kind regards,
Kellogs
