  System Blue connector S1 3-4 ?
Posted by: elythomaslumber - 2016-09-07, 08:19 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - Replies (6)

Hi!

running my System Blue for first experiments and set-up tests, waiting for my GPS antenna.

One question about the on-board connector S1 on PCB 19.3. By default 1-2 and 5-6 are jumpered but what about 3-4?
The schematic is telling me that a lot of IC's are connected to VDD but a jumper is needed on 3-4.

Obviously VDD is connected to the IC's since they are working. Is there any change in the PCB connecting them to VDD without the jumper or is there any further meaning for this jumper?

System Blue SW Upgrade / first time start-up
Posted by: elythomaslumber - 2016-09-04, 09:24 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (1)

Hi all!

received my system blue some days ago, assembled it ... and after powering on it does not start-up.
Only power leds, GPS flashing were on and also ETH green/yellow flashing.

Finally there was no firmware on the board! I installed the SW via "DfuSe Demo-Software"-
The SW seems to be running but I have not added GPS and antennas so far. So only basically everythings seems to be ok.

Now it's working but showing a "Error: Invalid controller PCB detected! ". I did download a new one from the WEB server but got a "Firmware_8.0_BLUE.bin" file which seems to be not the same as a "DFU" file.

Does anybody know a download link for a "DFU" file since I would like to update via "DfuSe Demo-Software"?

OK guys, forget about my question, there is an embedded SW upgrade option in addition to the SW download option!
Anyway hope the info below helps those who had the same problem like me getting a board without FW.

Cheers and 73 Hartmut / DK5LH

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here a short description for those who will have the same problem when receiving a board without pre-installed FW:
- download the "DfuSe Demo-Software" and follow the instructions as descriped in the system blue manual
- in my case the driver was not found and not installed! Therefore look where the SW was installed: maybe c:\program File (x86)\STM microelectronics...
- here you will find the drivers for manually installation
- now after successfully installing drivers everything should work as described in the system blue manual...but for those who have the same PCB 19.3 board as me...it's not the correct SW but seems to be running

  H-field PCB 16.x sys Blue

I can't find the way how to connect the ferrite antennas to the board, the assembly instruction shows 9 screwterminals labeled as A1 A2 GND B1 B2 GND etc.

Another document states  one should connect the marked coil wire on the ferrite to the positive terminal.

Using two ferrite bars with coils I connected one between A1 and A2 and the other to B1 and B2.

Is this correct?

Tnx!

  PoE recommendations for System Blue
Posted by: bodgit - 2016-09-01, 13:54 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - Replies (9)

I've just received my System Blue kit which I'm in the process of assembling. I'm currently thinking to power it using PoE as I then only have to deal with running Ethernet cable to wherever I host the system. I'm therefore looking for a PoE injector/splitter pair, ideally 802.3af compliant.

I've seen there's a cheap TP-Link combo comprising a TL-POE150S & TL-POE10R however I've seen reports that this splitter is not galvanically isolated. Would this be a problem given it won't be connected to anything else to create a ground loop? (The problem I've commonly seen is powering a Raspberry Pi using this splitter and then connecting it via HDMI to a TV)

Has anyone else used PoE for powering their system and have any recommendations?

  GPS antenna SYSTEM BLUE !
Posted by: IK1TTD - 2016-08-30, 14:54 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - Replies (9)

Hello everybody, I am just ready to order my  lightning detector. I have ready that the antenna GPS should work up to 10 meter cable. I am quite sure that I will need at least 20 meter cable, beacsue I would like to place the detectors inside the house; anybody has experience  in this matter ? Any idea to works also with longer lines ?

Hi,

i hope to setup a System blue as soon as i can get one - but i have a not so trivial question.

- how much bandwith will be used?
- how much data will be send /received (estimate) per month?

Tank you in advance

Greetings

Bjoern

The station will be installed in the area of Koblenz / Rhineland-Palatinate / Germany.

Three observed strokes from LMO, Aug 28, 2016
compared with Actual Observation.
Note that the one stroke plotted as Experimental was intra-cloud anvil crawler
exactly over the station location. Other two marked within meters of C-G strike
point... (Physically observed) Other stroke not 'tagged' could not get physical
observation.
Also note that Frankfort A and Frankfort B (RED and BLUE) are both at the
approximate FRANKFORT B plot location in the image, not separated. Also
BLUE receiver working on extremely low gain setting E channel only during this period.
