  Station maintainance
Posted by: guidoco - 2016-07-24, 20:53 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - Replies (3)

The strikes seem to be pretty accurate except for 2 local stations that I have never seen reister a strike. Station # 1163 in Redmond and station # 1238 in Port Townsend are both close enough to pick up strong lightning in Seattle, Everett, and Marysville. We have had several strong lightning storms in the area with jothing showing locally.

Thanks for any info on why strikes on the West of the mountains don't show op.

  long term statistics possible?
Posted by: dlen - 2016-07-23, 17:05 - Forum: Website, Maps and Applications - Replies (2)

Hi,

IMO it would be interesting to be able to answer statistical questions like

How many lightning happened per year in this and this region (europe, germany, france, northern america......)?

With this, one could look if there's a trend, which could be attributed to climate change.

Does such a possibility exist?

greetings - Dominik

  Server Hardware?
Posted by: tobby - 2016-07-19, 17:46 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - Replies (3)

Hi

I just discovered this nice project! Good job! Smile

I saw, that you need much power for computing the data you get from the stations. Since I have access to several servers with decent hardware (up to Skylake Xeons) and good internet connections (Gbit) I just wanted to ask: Is there any need in more server hardware running in datacenters?

If this sounds interesting, please contact me. I think I can organize some "stuff" without monthly fees and with cheap one-time fees, maybe even for free.

  New system, noob questions
Posted by: Junebug - 2016-07-18, 14:11 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (4)

Hi all,

Finally got my Blue system up and running here in Asheville NC (Station 1542).

Looking for a little help.

1) Is there a definitive guide to "tuning" the system.  I seem to get a lot of signals, but very few are used in locating strikes.  I have tried manually tuning but in the dark as to what the best approach is.

2) When I assembled by system this weekend I noticed the assembly guide had changed.  Now it calls for an auxiliary voltage regulator (PCB 21).  How do I go about getting one.

Regards,

Junebug

  A "stroke" is a medicinal abnomaly!

Hi,
I would like to bring to your attention that we are discussing lightning  Lightning  strikes or flashes here but definitely not "strokes"

  RaspberryPi + System Blue
Posted by: Karlchen_1 - 2016-07-09, 14:16 - Forum: Non-English - Replies (4)

Hi,

  Hello from Canada

Discovered this site a couple of months ago when I was looking for information on lightning. I'm amazed how lightning can be detected at such long distances, and how fast it can be displayed. As well how many strikes some areas receive during a storm. Now whenever we have a weather system come through I check the weather radar then this site to see the lightning activity we might expect.

Myself and a few of my friends are amateur radio operators (Hams) and also members of Canwarn, (volunteer severe weather spotting and reporting program) from what I've read this a similar to Skywarn Europe. I sent them link for this site and we have been discussing the possibility of setting up a detection system. Its something we might like to do in as a group project in the future.

Great site and thank you to the founder and the volunteers who developed, support and maintain this web site.

Regards
Joe

Posted by: MeinerEiner - 2016-07-07, 07:14 - Forum: Non-English - Replies (4)

Guten Morgen,

Beispiel:

Code:
&action=0&name=Gewitter10km&time=20160705180845&first=2016-07-05+16%3a07%3a07&last=2016-07-05+18%3a07%3a50&strokes=246&strokes_per_min_last=9&strokes_per_min_max=38&arrival_time=0&dist_last=487&dist_min=346&dist_max=500°erees_last=145°rees_mean=80&trend_pct=-30&trend_sec=480

&first=2016-07-05+16%3a07%3a07  ==>> Worauf bezieht sich die Zeitangabe "first"?

&last=2016-07-05+18%3a07%3a50  ==>> Letzte Auftreten?

&strokes=246  ==>> Anzahl der Blitze insgesamt. Auf den Zeitraum "last" - "first" bezogen?

&strokes_per_min_last=9  ==>> Anzahl Blitze pro Minute zuletzt.

&strokes_per_min_max=38  ==>> Anzahl Blitze pro Minute maximal während des o.a. Bezugszeitraum.

&arrival_time=0  ==>> Ankunftszeit? Von was?

&dist_last=487  ==>> Entfernung des letzten gemessenen Blitze. In km?

&dist_min=346  ==>> Entfernung der Blitze minimal. Einheit wie oben.

&dist_max=500°erees_last=145°rees_mean=80

Hier vermute ich einen kleinen Fehler?! Evtl. fehlen da 2 Trennzeichen ("&") und soll sein:
&dist_max=500&°erees_last=145&°rees_mean=80

Also:
&dist_max=500  ==>> Entfernung der Blitze maximal. Einheit wie oben.
&°erees_last=145  ==>>??
&°rees_mean=80  ==>> ??

Der Rest:
&trend_pct=-30  ==>> Trend, bezogen auf Blitzhäufigkeit? Wegen "-" also abnehmend?
&trend_sec=480  ==>> wie oben.

Thomas
