Question about System Blue parts.
Posted by: kevinmcc - 2016-05-06, 19:03 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

I am not able to source the 25 Mhz crystals from a US source that have same specs exact specs from the bit of looking I have done.

Is there anyway you can make both crystals SMD on a future revisions of the board and include them already mounted?

The hole world at the same time
Posted by: dusanofrode - 2016-05-05, 07:41 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (4)

To day I looked at the last 24 hour historical data and found that at UTC 14:20 on May 4th thunder stopped/slowed down at exact same time all over the world. See attachment, and take a look for your self at the historical data page Smile

Can anybody explain this?

  Internet connection problem
Posted by: Egon - 2016-05-04, 14:06 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

Our server provider seems to have again a problem with the internet connection. This is not a problem of blitzortung.org, so please do not write me an email to inform me about that.

LOW priority, but wanted to note it to the developers
Posted by: Dale.Reid - 2016-04-26, 23:41 - Forum: Website, Maps and Applications - Replies (3)

There is so much going on that please don't take this note as an important concern.

But unless someone says something, you'll not know, so put this on your list of fix its when you get bored and have nothing to do.

I did check with several other users and they have found the same concern, so it doesn't seem to be just me.

Issue #1:  When I go to lightningmaps.org, log in and then go to the real time display, the map comes up as I have left it, and the station selections are all there, but the lines setting I made is forgotten from the previous visit.

I know it used to remember all the settings, and it is easy enough to go to the upper right hand corner, select the little antenna with the vibrations eminating from it and see Stations, Lines and Coverage and then re-select the Lines radio dot that I want.  The curious thing is that the Stations and the Coverage stay selected to where they were when I last visited.

Issue #2:  I remember but can't attest without doubt that the Real Time Lightning page used to remember that I had previously signed in, and even provides a box that says Stay Logged In under the For Participants, LogIn selection on the left side.  I sort of remember that I could return to the page some time later and it recognized me as having signed in.

I'm not seeing any other trouble, and I do think that I have the cookies OK'ed in my browser, and it seems to do the same thing whether I use FireFox, Chrome, or IE.

None of these are big deals but they seem to have changed from some time ago and I've been hesitant to even mention them at all, but if there are revisions in the future, it would be nice to have them return to working as before.

Thank you.  Dale

  Cables needed for System Blue
Posted by: MDMD - 2016-04-23, 13:06 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (7)

After years of fascinated watching real time lightning data on the Blitzortung website, I'm interested in operating a Sytem Blue lightning detection site.

I'm aware that Sytem Blue still is in development. Because I currently renovate our house, it would be much easier, if I could install the cables needed for Sytem Blue now.

Could anyone please specify which cables are needed between antenna/(pre-)amplifier and gps antenna mounted in an attic and the control unit, which should be installed in the basement?

Thx Martin

Information System Blue Order Status 12. August 2016
Posted by: Egon - 2016-04-11, 08:14 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (435)

This thread gives you information on how to order a detector.

Please do not ask us by email, when the boards are available. We will announce it here in this thread.

Date: 12. August 2016
Status: Detectors are available

The ordering process of detectors is as follows. Everybody who leaves his email at the Cover Your Area Page page is stored in a reservation list and gets a rank. If detectors are available, we will proceed according to this list. Nevertheless, about one third of the detectors will be reserved to particularly interesting locations.

In any case please
1.) read the old Project Description, (thoroughly!),
2.) read the new
Project Description with Assembly Instruktion for System Blue (thoroughly!)

Looking to setup a new station near Barcelone
Posted by: VLorz - 2016-03-31, 15:51 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (5)

Hi All,

I've been looking all around blitzortung.org but can't manage to find how I could acquire the hardware for setting up a new station in a city near by Barcelone (spain). I spend 100% of my time developing, assembling and programming custom hardware of almost any complexity so it will be no problem at all if I have to assemble and setup all things to get it to work.

How could I acquire the kit? Thanks a lot in advance.

Best regards, Victor

earth ellipsoid - smallest number of stations
Posted by: RiePa - 2016-03-27, 17:22 - Forum: Website, Maps and Applications - Replies (4)

Hello,
caused by working with "mds" and station numbers given by raw TOA material I wondered about two questions:

1) The network uses GPS to determine the location of a station and to provide them with a precise timestamp.
But in what way is the earth approximated as an ideal spheric?
Could it be that the network uses the WGS-84 ellipsoid like e.g. aviation does?

2) Looking for the smallest number of stations required I got the following values:
REGION        NUMBER
Europe        12
America        11
Oceania        7

(Indeed I am quite sure only six or seven stations were needed a couple of years ago concerning Europe.)
In what way did/ does the smallest required number of stations change, concerning the three regions?

best regards
PothThom

and thanks for your time...
