what is the best setup for BO??
Posted by: frode dahl - 2015-06-22, 19:40 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (12)

hello.

Just a quick question that might require a longer answer, but what is the "sweet spot" for Blitzortung?
Guess the stats are helping to tune for "ego" , but does the stats serve Blitzortung also?
@ what range from antenna do you get the best accurancy?
thinking more about what serves  the Blitzortung better, than my ego for getting most hits, or stats? -or are these "following the same path"?
Guess the answer will be different if a antenna is in a area with low coverage, and if there is high density of participants around, so i understand that the answer will be "depending on" Smile
For a triangulation perspective would not longer range give higher % accurancy than close range?
I know my signals are rubbish atm, but im working on that issue.. still what should i aim for to get my system RED to be best for BO?

  Just a word or two...
Posted by: cutty - 2015-06-20, 23:56 - Forum: General Discussion - No Replies

The Blitzortung development team has had an extremely chaotic first half of the year, with vocational related (job) demands, etc,... therefore, the release of system BLUE is a bit behind projections,  Please bear with us,  Egon has begun construction and evaluation of prototype 'amplifier" boards, with prototype preamps for H and E channels..... to be joined later with the controller, firmware, etc.  Again, 'life' interferes at times with 'hobby'..... and we have an excellent network, and committed operators.

For those who wish to join the BT network. and those who wish to add BLUE to an existing location, please remain patient... BLUE will fascinate and intrigue us....and the experience and data gathered from existing Green and Red stations should impress all, when BLUE is ready for release, in a few months.

Thanks, and best wishes to all of you!  Please stay tuned, and monitor this forum, and other significant BT pages, for further updates and announcements!

Hello
where to find a description of the column header meanings (i.e. effectivity "S", "M" and "L")? What do these figures indicate? Can one conclude troubles or mafunctioning hw based on these numbers?

Thanks and best regards
Hans

  lightningmaps.org: strokes by station
Posted by: Steph - 2015-06-15, 09:45 - Forum: Website, Maps and Applications - Replies (5)

Hi,

Is the dynamic map option "show only strokes by station" and "stroke counter (stations)" gone forever? I found this quite useful.

Question lightningmaps.org statistics outdated
Posted by: Knolau - 2015-06-14, 11:37 - Forum: Website, Maps and Applications - Replies (3)

Helllo everyone!

What´s wrong with lightningmaps.org? In the last days the statistics is full of gaps. Server overload?

Currently the statistic is not up to date:
"Last update: 122.7 minutes ago"

Could anybody  please explain this?

Cheers

Knolau

  Let's get some global coverage
Posted by: lasse - 2015-06-11, 17:22 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (1)

Hi there,

catchy title? Yes, but the text will be worth the time reading it.

About myself: I'm a German living in Berlin, studying physics and consider myself a hacker. I'm a member of the c-base, the oldest and one of the biggest hackerspaces: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C-base or www.c-base.org

"A hackerspace (also referred to as a hacklab, makerspace or hackspace) is a community-operated workspace where people with common interests, often in computers, machining, technology, science, digital art or electronic art, can meet, socialize and collaborate." (wikipedia)

I use blitzortung for quite some time now, and would definitely like to see it grow. Living in Berlin I don't see a great need for a station at my home. But there is another activity of mine that maybe would be very useful: I'm an active participant of the yearly chaos communication congress (over 10'000 people) and this years chaos communication camp (around 4'500 people). Between the thousands of German visitors there are always hundreds of hackers from all around the world.

I have read the newsletter and some posts here and there and know there's only little information about the upcoming system blue.

So my questions is simple: Can you please tell me when to expect the system blue and what the estimated price range will be?

If I have the answer before the first week of august I can promise you to talk with people all over the world or people who have an one hop contact to everywhere. And those people have the interest and capability to build and maintain the stations and most of them even have the funding to get right into it.

places I have in mind and I know at least one person associated with them:
Cairo
Seoul
Hong Kong and/or Shanghai
Tokio
Canary Islands
Singapore
Kathmandu

And I'm positive I will meet a lot more people in August and December, to see a list of possible candidates check the https://wiki.hackerspaces.org/List_of_Hacker_Spaces

I will invest my time to see the global coverage grow and infuse more people with the idea to track lightnings in their region if you are able to help me with it.

If you have any questions about myself, the c-base, hackerspaces, the ccc camp or congress etc. don't hesitate to ask.

  Cannot login any more
Posted by: Sebastian.Mahr - 2015-06-08, 14:53 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (6)

Hi,

sorry for bothering you with that strange question.
I cannot anymore login to both blitzortung.org and lighningmaps.
Yesterday blitzortung worked, I clicked the forgot password link. Now no system lets me in.

I had re-activated my station 1053 and it is sending successfully.

Can someone help me here? Or post a link to where I could get help from?

Thanks,
Sebastian
